Elfe was the grandest of all of my cats <br />She dined on Reece's Pieces preferably flat <br /> <br />As a mother she bore babies one Bump and one Bent <br />Then three more before going, she got up and went <br /> <br />They wept- on their Journey to Cat Heaven's Gate <br />and Kept- their eyes closed- would not resuscitate <br /> <br />Twin graves dug too shallow couldn't keep them for long <br />They soon sprang up dancing to Death's haunting song <br /> <br />Christmas Holly was a He and had talents quite uncanny <br />He turned pirouttes, scoped roaches and retrieved rubber Marsupilami <br /> <br />His best friend was Sugar, fuzzy, cute, bitter, sweet <br />Who played like she was a tiger, went on prowls, liked to eat <br /> <br />Twice hit & twice run and all the felines were done <br />For- no cats came to Cal, this west wasn't won <br /> <br />But overseas there came a Twinkle and thereafter a Bat <br />Though the natives thought us strange to say 'Fledermaus' to a cat <br /> <br />In Kat's memory these were first, so their passing went not lightly <br />They found place in her pictures, poems and prayers almost nightly <br /> <br />In honor of her painting followed Pinsel & Palette <br />He could brush, stroke with his tail, She- colored etiquette <br /> <br />Nine lives graced these ages, now all of them spent <br />This portrait is of immortality, if not wholly eloquent <br /> <br />For the closest we come as mere men to Perfection <br />Is to have and to hold, and to love and to pet one<br /><br />Tears In Rain<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/9-lives/
