My religion would be called 'Tolerance' <br />It's doctrine would be respect, <br />Respect for yourself and for others <br />And the best of all beliefs it'd reflect. <br /> <br />It would teach to be kind and thoughtful, <br />And not think yourself superior to others. <br />It would practice no matter what race or sexual orientation <br />We are all as one, we are all sisters and brothers. <br /> <br />It would not dictate what you do with your body, <br />All it would say would be live your life well, <br />It would not tell you that you should change others, <br />It would not speak of heaven or hell. <br /> <br />It would state that you should be loving, <br />And not hurt others or be of narrow mind. <br />It would not say that one gender should rule, <br />But truth in equality and peace it would find. <br /> <br />It would not make use of covers or veils <br />To mask the beauty of the human form and soul, <br />It would not ask for money or converts, <br />It would say 'strive to make your knowledge whole'. <br /> <br />If I could found a religion <br />Then 'Tolerance' it would have to be <br />It wouldn't ask for you to change <br />Why in the world should you follow me. <br /> <br />(C) Victoria Elizabeth Hughes 2005<br /><br />Victoria Hughes<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/my-religion/
