a blanket of black chases the fading sun away to the west <br />its imperfect reflection arises to meet the impending dark <br />and the bright candy of night appears, basking in all its glory <br />moonbeams shine down on the earth, a fine spray of dusty light <br /> <br />and I wonder why <br /> <br />why every night the stars emerge, and mankind still dreams <br />dreams of fanstasies that will never come true, that will vaporize <br />in the cold harsh air the moment they awake <br />of past memories so painful, so sad, they are locked in an endless cycle <br />in man's unconsiousness, never bobbing to the surface <br />of the disasters yet to befall them: catastrophies, chaotic scenes <br />running like a picture show in their darkened sleep <br />tempting cruel fate <br /> <br />and I wonder why <br /> <br />why God created this great vista of life, this galactic paradise <br />yet ridden with shattered hopes, and broken hearts that never heal <br />gouging scars, blood-soaked grounds <br />burning with their passion for more: more of everything there is <br />more control, more knowledge, more deaths <br />wanting to conquer the unknown, dragging humanity down <br />to the depths, the depths of the unknown <br />unseeing and unbelieving <br /> <br />why every morning, every day <br />the sun breaks across the far-reaching horizon <br />and humanity rises to meet it <br /> <br />looking up to the sky <br /> <br />the dark pigments of night wash into the pale hues of dawn <br />dark's moment has ended and the moon sinks behind cool mist <br />a fireball rises in the east, eating up night's fading candy <br />the red-orange meshes with the purple-blue shades of morning <br /> <br />another day has begun <br />another day to dream and discover <br />and I still wonder why<br /><br />gina prettybrowneyes<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/looking-up-to-the-sky/
