Hello darkness, my old friend, <br />I’ve come to talk with you again, <br />Because a vision softly creeping, <br />Left it’s seeds while I was sleeping, <br /> <br /> <br />Silence shouted out of the night. <br />When morter rounds came raining, washing death. <br />Silence spoke in words of wounded men, waiting for a chopper. <br />When hillsides and rice patties lit up the night, Napalm spoke. <br /> <br />Christmas was observed with a cease fire <br />except for those that <br />knew not Christ's birthday. <br />Rifle fire with tracers burning red. <br /> <br />Silence shattered by screaming. waking up at night. <br />Feeling like the next round will be on me. <br /> <br />And the signs said, the words of the prophets <br />Are written on the subway walls <br />And tenement halls. <br />And whisper’d in the sounds of silence<br /><br />Joe Howell<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/sounds-of-silence/
