Deep in the heart of a country, <br />In the heart of a man, so dear, <br />Dwelled a father who tended a garden, <br />Where love grew through the years. <br /> <br />This father cared for his seedlings, <br />He sheltered them as they grew, <br />He provided the strength they needed, <br />In all the ways that he knew. <br /> <br />He carefully watched them growing, <br />He fed them the wisdom of years, <br />Whenever they thirsted for guidance, <br />His rivers of knowledge were near. <br /> <br />After he tended the seedlings, <br />This father of love, so kind, <br />Knew of an aged vineyeard, <br />Which needed his love and time. <br /> <br />He cared for the aging vineyard, <br />Loving as though of his own, <br />Til the Lord collected the harvest, <br />And gathered its vines for His own. <br /> <br />These gardens of love he tended, <br />Hours he spent in their care, <br />Yet one more garden was treasured, <br />In the heart of this man so dear. <br /> <br />This garden he kept in his heart, <br />The one which he treasured for life, <br />Was that of his loving friend, <br />His comrade, his solace, his wife. <br /> <br />Together, they grew the memories, <br />Forever, they'll flourish in love, <br />For this father still watches his garden, <br />With a heart looking down from above.<br /><br />Jean Penner<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/a-garden-of-love/
