I saw him briefly once, <br />like a three dimensional <br />shadow on the lake. <br />And I was breathless in <br />the presence of such majesty. <br />The sheen of his plumage, <br />changing, as the sun danced <br />on the rippling water. <br />He turned towards the <br />bank where I lay. <br />Across the small distance, <br />We met eye to eye, <br />suddenly as if to offer <br />me a benediction he <br />raised himself in the <br />water and spread his wings. <br />Then he turned and was gone, <br />yet in the contact of our eyes <br />I felt his pity, in that I was <br />just a mortal man. <br />Whilst He, was a Black Swan.<br /><br />Bill Mitton<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/an-audience-granted/
