A war of love, a war I lost, <br />The stakes were high, my soul it cost. <br />Lamed, maimed and ripped apart, <br />A defenceless casualty, was my heart. <br /> <br />Now though, like a lamb, it is born, <br />And of it’s fleece of misery it is shorn. <br />It is granted wings so it may flutter again, <br />We expected this happening, but didn’t know when. <br /> <br />An Army of Pain marched through the whole of me, <br />Splitting it into parts of three. <br />Aching heart, soul and mind, <br />I see now that love was blind. <br /> <br />A loving hand reached down into Hell, <br />Stroked the cracks and made all well. <br />It lifted me high, from Hell to the stars, <br />From the Devil’s clutches to the moons of Mars. <br /> <br />Chattering machine guns fire rounds of hurt, <br />Catch me by surprise, push me down in the dirt. <br />But then I rise up, like a phoenix from flames, <br />Tired of playing these stricken war games. <br /> <br />My heart bleeds it’s lonely blood, <br />On Romance‘s battlefield, alone it stood. <br />Seemed like forever, but the Cavalry came. <br />In love again, and there is no shame. <br /> <br />Dying slowly, giving up fast. <br />In love again, but this will last. <br />Weakened and broken and torn apart, <br />But here it is, I offer my heart.<br /><br />Dan Brown<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/hurt-heart-healed/
