A dust mote
flying through the air
approached me
where I sat.

I entered it,
surprised to find
a world unto itself,

a world unending,
thought and action
living there as one,

'a hand in the place of a hand, '*
where timelessness reached into time
and becoming had merged in Being.

A wishing-vehicle I had,
to fly me to my whims.
My whims were wise,

they poured forth service
to the whole.
I saw myself in everyone,
and everyone in me,

and coming to my senses,
dwelt on how
to live that dream
upon this dust mote, Earth.
____
*from THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO ST. THOMAS: 'When you make the two one, and when you make the inmost as the outermost and the outer as the inner and the above as the below, and when you make the male and female into a single unity, so that the male will not be only male and the female will not be only female, when you create eyes in the place of an eye, and create a hand in the place of a hand, and a foot in the place of a foot, and also an image in the place of an image, then surely will you enter the kingdom.'

Max Reif

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/a-birthday-daydream-as-i-begin-my-59th-year-on-earth/
