Hey you standing their, with your arms into the sky. <br />and the rest of you, standing firm on the ground. <br />They say you are naked, in winter time. <br />When the frost comes calling, and the snows all around. <br />Your name might be Oak, Chestnut or Birch, <br />but why does mother nature, always leave you in the lurch. <br />You stand so proud, against the skyline <br />Yet she takes your leaves, and leaves the pine. <br />Then she becomes one of her proud evergreens <br />and you become lost into, her winter scenes, <br />But you are the trees that are in history book pages, <br />with the building of ships, througout the ages. <br />Trees that have built road and rail, <br />and you the tree, that has felled in many a gale <br />You the tree, that adorn's our skyline, <br />you stand there meaningless, in a world of decline <br />Tree's that should be forever, in our great land, <br />but time will tell, with the help of God's hand.<br /><br />sylvia spencer<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/an-ode-to-our-trees/
