D-Day, <br />Bomb screams, <br />Sky grey, <br />Rain gleams, <br />Boats on the roar, <br />Hugging my gun, <br />Vomit on the floor, <br />Shadow of the sun. <br /> <br />A shingly shore, <br />Leap into water, <br />My little core. <br />My little daughter. <br />I crawl through sand, <br />Dodging bullet barrage, <br />Fusillade at hand, <br />My failing marriage. <br /> <br />Bombs begin to fly, <br />Grenades explode, <br />My throat goes dry, <br />And my eyes erode. <br />A dead man trail, <br />To hide in fear, <br />Wait 'til we prevail, <br />Come out and cheer. <br /> <br />The noises cease, <br />I can hear the waves. <br />I can hear the peace <br />And soldiers' raves. <br />Then we all mellow, <br />Sanctuary's near, <br />I may be yellow <br />But hell, I am here!<br /><br />K.
