As the sun sets in a faraway land <br />A young soldier sits, a picture in his hand <br />His thoughts on his wife and child-a young family <br />And he prays every night that again he'll see <br />'Lord, I miss them so much is all I can say <br />And I want so much to go home one day <br />My wife doesn't tell me but I know she cries many tears <br />And I want to be there to calm my child's fears <br />But, Lord, don't get me wrong as to why I'm in this place <br />Even though death I have to face <br />I'm here for those killed on that September day <br />That our faith and our freedom will not be taken away <br />I'll serve my land gladly although it may mean my life <br />For this is the soldier's highest sacrafice <br />Now keep my family safe as they face a new day <br />It's in Your precious name I humbly pray' <br />He carefully puts away the picture and lays down for the night <br />Longing for the day when no wars left to fight <br /> <br />(05/30/05)<br /><br />Mary Ryan<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/a-soldier-s-prayer/
