Tay Winston - An Elegy to A Friendship

2014-11-07 21 Dailymotion

I mourn the lost of yesteryear,
Of friendship fresh when first newfound
Of open hearts and eager ears
That loadstone like kept two lives bound

I wept each moment’s winged flight
That lingered not o’ music’s air
That swelled the soul with sheer delight
But mist-like, halved when loves were shared

I grief the bygone seventh-day noons
When wearied strength found resting home
Where though the week-long labours loomed
Chronos stopped; - an instant stoned

Lamenting - I recall the nights
Filled with words of long exchange
Filled with minds’ illumining light
Darkened now to a yearning’s pain

I tried the best that I knew how
To close the distance of each crack
To mend the awkward silence’s sound
That rose behind my knowing’s back

I gave my effort, time and all
My waking hours of the morn
My care to shield each rain that falls
With well-thought words of deed or song

Alas, these joys - a recent past
Are lost beyond my mending’s skill
Are never pleasures gained if asked
So these affections - now I still.

Tay Winston

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/an-elegy-to-a-friendship/
