i got carried away <br />cleaning winter dust <br />out of my front porch <br />& threw my back out <br /> <br />he says “don’t get <br />addicted to those pills” <br /> <br />fat chance <br />all I need is another <br />addiction i can’t afford <br />besides i think i’m the only <br />person in the world <br />who hates being high <br /> <br />my head feels twice as big <br />with half the common sense <br />reminds me of the hangovers <br />i had in my 20's <br /> <br />last night i wrote the worst <br />poems i’ve written in years <br />have to wonder how anyone <br />does this under the influence <br /> <br />i’m not sure which is worse <br />the pain in my back or the cure <br />even though i only took half <br />as much as suggested on the bottle <br /> <br />my energy’s zapped <br />& my tongue feels like <br />i’ve been licking powdered alum <br /> <br />just woke up <br />feel like i haven’t slept in days <br />& i think i actually drooled <br />in my sleep<br /><br />Joyce Chelmo<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/i-d-make-a-lousy-addict/
