Fluffing her skirt and straightening her hair
She looks in the mirror with a nervous glare.

She slips on her shoes and circles her feet
Shes nervous inside, yet she looks so neat

Behind the curtain her heart beats more
She hears the music, and the crowds roar.

She takes a deep breath and glides on the stage
She has captured freedom like a bird from its cage.

She leaps in the air, like a lion to its prey
Shes pleased with the show at the end of the day.

Now its all over, she sighs with relief
Dance is her life and thats her belief.

The crowd go crazy for the free little bird
She moves like a swan, yet never to be heard.

Free til the next show
Turn a new page
The shoes are hung up and the bird goes to its cage.

Danielle Anne Wilkinson

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/dancing-in-the-night/
