Most people think that cats are a pest <br />when they climb up a tree and raid a blackbirds <br />nest; but when you have read this little story <br />you might want to praise the feline with glory. <br />In Egyptian times the cat was God and he was <br />greatly worshipped, wherever he trod. <br />Men were killed if they harmed the cats <br />because they were there to get rid of the rats. <br />A thousand years later they were introduced to Rome <br />to kill the rats that infested their home. <br />When Richard the Lionheart came back from the wars <br />so did the rats in tens and scores. <br />Every home in Europe now possessed a cat to get rid <br />of the rodent, The plague infested Rat. <br />Rats have brought plagues to many a fair city, but out <br />they went with the sight of the kitty. <br />The felines are hunters with a natural born skill, and even I <br />get upset when they come home with a kill.
