They came in the dead of the night, <br />Ravenous and hungry looking for food, <br />They tore at my flesh, bones and soul, <br />They seared my mind in the fired grill, <br />Their screams of victory so shrill, <br />As I heard their devilish laughter, <br />As they took their fill, <br />Of my innocence, faith, and security. <br /> <br />I am lonely and so afraid, <br />In my abandoned state, <br />That my fears last to this very day, <br />Unable to leave my mind in peace, <br />While they still laugh and enjoy their feast. <br /> <br />Oh why can't they leave me alone? <br />Why can't they let me go home, <br />And be at peace in my soul? <br />Why won't they let me be whole, <br />In my body and soul? <br />Why must they continue to devour, <br />This innocent little flower, <br />Who only wants to be complete and whole, <br />In her body and soul?<br /><br />Barbara Lynn Terry<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/fears-of-a-sad-soul/
