Let us run away
To a modern equivalent
Of that dream I had as a child,
When you were wearing that barley hair
And running down Firefly Creek.
Where the sun was but a fiery blotch,
A kiss blown by you
On God's cheek.

Let us run away
Along the nightroad
Alit with dancing candlelight,
Which shows the future
In obsidian prism shine
Where the moon was but a giant teardrop
From every youthful woe
Of wishing you were mine.

Let us be lovers
And run past the confederate flags
That wave along the wind machines,
And let me be lost with you.
Where you and I were just little kids,
Unafraid of the future
And dying without a clue.

K.
