Since '78, a slow steady depletion, <br />Dissipating family, foundations quake, <br />Latter part of year, wings take flight, <br />Baring north from ol' Douglas lake. <br /> <br />In steady course, Chilkat Lake. <br />North Alaska, destination Haines, <br />Upon sandbars & cottonwood trees, <br />Festive feast brings weight gain. <br /> <br />Pondering moment of arrival, <br />Visitation of long lost kin, <br />Gossip tells this fables fall, <br />Be ardent with hardy a grin. <br /> <br />Forth time journey to endearing place, <br />Barring tiding of such good cheer, <br />Seems eaglettes have been busy, <br />Status Que, changes since four years. <br /> <br />Upon four mile stretch, rivers edge, <br />We shall feast of salmon in spawn, <br />Endangered, once being claim to fame, <br />Has seen removal, long since gone. <br /> <br />Each year, returns to shores of Haines, <br />Chilkat river, and banks so fair, <br />Celebration whit feast of salmon, <br />commending the people that did care....<br /><br />Geoff Warden<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/haliaeetus-leucocephalus/
