we are growing old together <br />time is passing fast <br />our youth was left behind ages ago <br />nothing does ever last <br /> <br />my skin is beginning to loosen <br />my hair beginning to thin <br />my body that once was my pride <br />uncovering it seems like a sin <br /> <br />doubts often assail me <br />about the ravages of time on my face <br />theres nothing that can slow down time, <br />theres nothing to halt that pace, <br /> <br />you who were once so handsome <br />contours of a greek god no less, <br />time has filled out those hollows <br />filled up the face I loved to caress, <br /> <br />but the wisdom that shines out of those eyes <br />the hurts you withstood and suffered, <br />the experience that life has taught us <br />has been by our love well buffered, <br /> <br />time heals those wounds like no other <br />God heals with his loving hands, <br />and both of us tread together this path <br />leaving some footprints in the sand <br /> <br />if we have done our bit in life <br />been good, and taught our children well <br />thanked God for all he gave us, <br />nothing more is there to tell <br /> <br />fate does deal different blows <br />to each and every in his creation <br />but how well we deal and learn from them <br />is the essence of life, the summation <br /> <br />every birth is meant to evolve <br />improve and become sublime, <br />and finally in some divine moment, <br />be lucky to submerge with the divine<br /><br />Arti Chopra<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/the-essence-of-life-2/
