A rhythmic thing you must agree. <br />Elastic like chewing gum. <br />Oh and it gets everywhere. <br />Even in my dreams. <br />Unyielding, it won’t wait up for me. <br />Brings to mind “inexorably” <br />Are you really so relentless? <br />Are you set, hell bent, on reaching some end? <br />Will you destroy everything that rises? <br />Do I exist in all time now? <br />Or is each second eked out and apportioned to me, one by one? <br />But from where would each one come? <br /> <br />Is there some great warehouse <br />With a store of seconds to issue forth <br />In a constant stream of deliveries to the universe? <br />How many seconds are left <br />Before the warehouse is bereft <br />of any more to issue through its door? <br />And do I care, <br />is time my master? <br />Or do I chew it until it’s lost its flavour?<br /><br />David Taylor<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/time-to-chew/
