I slip into shadows <br />to hide my eyes. <br />I can't ever allow myself <br />to let them see me cry. <br />And I find it's much less complicated <br />to cry when I'm alone <br />then trying to explain to them <br />when the reasons I don't know. <br /> <br />Momma said it's okay to cry, <br />but the others never understood <br />and I cry all alone at night <br />just like Momma always would. <br /> <br />I never show my fears to them. <br />I keep 'em closed in tight. <br />Momma said 'don't ask for pity' <br />and Momma taught me right. <br /> <br />I cry alone up in my room, <br />and no one notices. <br />I cry for home and Momma's arms, <br />and wish on stars for happiness.<br /><br />Amanda Lukas<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/little-orphan-girl/
