I walk into your room, <br />Body limp, skin pale <br />I wish you’d wake up and smile again <br />As I sit and hold your hand <br />All I can hear are the monitors beeping <br />Your breath unsteady, heart pounding <br />Please open your eyes, one more time for me, <br />Tell me you won’t give up, it’ll never win <br />Speaking words of encouragement, as I hold back my tears <br />Sometimes I just want to scream and cry <br />I’d sit here every day for years if you’d just tell me once <br />To kiss my “poopies” for you <br />This fight is a huge one, I understand, <br />But there’s one factor this cancer didn’t think of - you <br />The mother, the fighter, the very foundation of our lives, morals, and hearts were based <br />Take my hand, hold it <br />Feel out and use my strength, I give it all to you, for without you, I’d have none <br />There’s still so much you have wanted to experience <br />So many people you still have to meet and touch the hearts of <br />But right now, here you lay, and here we sit beside you <br />Feel us around you, surrounding you with our love, admiration, strength <br />Know your grandkids aren’t far either <br />Know they love you and want you to see them soon <br />To hold them, kiss them, and spoil them the way only a grandmother knows how <br />Take this all in, use it, and know it will never fade <br />Because if it wasn’t for you, none of this would be here for you right now <br />We give back to you every booboo you kissed, every tear you wiped, every smile you made that lightened our bad days <br />We give it all back to you now, to help you fight <br />Just to see you smile again <br /> <br />Dedicated to my mother, who is in ICU while I am miles away.
