From a small pup you have delighted my heart <br />You chewed things you never should have <br />But we made it through that stage <br />Rushing you to the vet <br />When you were so small <br />Almost lost you, but you made it <br /> <br /> <br />Twelve years have come and past, my how you have grown <br />Ninety eight pounds and your still the most beautiful shepherd <br />I watch as you walk now <br />The ole’ pup tries to come back but the body just won’t allow it <br />I know the time is coming <br />When a choice I may have to make <br />To set you free from your pain <br /> <br />How can I make this decision, my loyal friend? <br />You have protected me and the children <br />Standing guard, making sure your family was safe <br />You let me know when a person was bad, your instinct uncanny <br />The seasons we have shared <br />Swimming, laughing and showing you off <br /> <br />The doc looks at me with sadden eyes <br />Tells me soon the time is near <br />I make you as comfortable as possible <br />Doggy pain medicines <br />How much longer, will the meds make it better? <br />Gently he touches my shoulder, they age like us dear <br />A year perhaps, it just depends.
