Walking in a farmyard <br />A day or two ago, <br />I saw a free-range chicken <br />Running to and fro’. <br /> <br />Thought how that feathered friend <br />Racing on its legs, <br />Sure as Hell must have been <br />Hatched out of an egg. <br /> <br />But the egg it crawled from <br />(If you think again) , <br />Couldn’t have done other than <br />Been laid by a hen. <br /> <br />And, no doubt, this very hen <br />(The one that laid the egg) , <br />Not so long before was tucked <br />Snug inside an egg. <br /> <br />So, which came first – <br />The chicken or the egg? <br />That’s the nagging question <br />Rattling in my head. <br /> <br />How to solve this riddle’s <br />Quite beyond my ken. <br />Please tell me the answer, <br />‘Cos I’m going round the bend.<br /><br />Denys E.
