~In memory of Jeremy Snyder~
(January,6,1976-March,25,2000)

Many things can be captured,
a butterfly in a net or a Gorilla in a cage,
even a willing heart can be stolen
and entrapped forever.
The joy and wonder of a waterfall
cannot be captured In a photo or a memory.
You cannot feel the spray upon your face,
you cannot feel the fresh air flowing through your lungs,
you cannot hear or see it babble while it
plays over the shiny yet worn rocks.
You too were like the waterfall...
unable to be bottled up and held close.
My wish is that you could have been captured,
encircled in a myriad of love,
right here in the realm on this earth.
I wish you could have lived your life until it was the end,
not when you chose to end it...
I have your photograph,
I remember your smile,
your infectious laugh still whispers in the recesses of my mind...
your memory brings a smile to my lips.
You slipped through our fingers like the water from the fall.
If only I’d had known your pain, maybe I could have helped.
My paper is damp with tears.
My heart is weary and I miss you Jeremy.
my prayer remains…
'Forgive Jeremy lord for he knows not what he has done,
I know his soul is in your hands as it has always been...
Breathe into him the Love and Joy he felt he lacked on earth.
Please Lord let me capture the hearts of the hopeless,
let me recognize and help the ones just like Jeremy and I
so this tragedy will cease.
And, Lord please…let us meet again in Heaven.'

Written in May of 2000.

Shelley L Baxter

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/captured-10/
