Yesterday's worries <br />matters not now <br />the sleep without dreams <br />takes care of that anyhow <br />the spirit when set free <br />of earth-bound mortality <br />is then freed from the pain, <br />what used to be reality... <br />Etched in stone forever <br />is, finally, one's epitaph <br />A life once lived, summed up <br />in a short paragraph... <br />so many of us are so <br />focused on the material, <br />forgotten is character, <br />our souls, ethereal <br />If one's existence is valued <br />solely on this... tangible factor <br />how's the poorest in life <br />the best remembered, for that matter? <br />To live is to have loved <br />to touch is with one's heart, <br />to be forgotten as thus <br />does death truly start <br />The dead cannot do, <br />as in life, to make right <br />The living, take heed! <br />Make good in life your plight... <br /> <br />Beginning with today, <br />for each year marches ever faster, <br />Make honor the code, <br />let it be your master <br />While bound to this earth, <br />we are all God's children, <br />Life, and the beauty within, <br />should be regarded as Heaven... <br />At the end we all sleep, <br />the sleep without dreaming, <br />Love ne'er forgets; <br />a life without, is without meaning.<br /><br />Lee Degnan<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/epitaph-33/
