On 21st of October 1966 a tip of coal slurry slid <br />Into the village of Aberfan and 144 people were <br />Killed. <br />Of these 116 were children who were buried <br />Beneath their school Pantglas Junior School. <br /> <br />They lie so close together now <br />Out there on the quiet hill <br />While the valley is weeping in the mist <br />For the mountains dreadful toll. <br /> <br />Their trusting eyes are closed now <br />Crushed by the indifference of men <br />And their still hearts burst with pity <br />For those that stand and mourn.<br /><br />Mike Tonkin<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/aberfan/
