I've stared out this dirty smudged window many times before
I've seen many nicely dressed people but none go through this door
but I guess that's how life is when you're poor
You don't got money but atleast you don't know what it's for
I guess ignorance is the most mature thing that we have
So we've got to laugh

I saw a pretty women with a big black umbrella
It was raining broken hearts memories of that one fella
When hard times got harder he turned yella
Now she's drown in the rain I'd swear she's an ocean dwelle'
I guess love is the most naive thing we embrace to feel
So it must be real

I've seen a man gamble away every goddamn last penny
On one lost game of blackjack where the jackpot was plenty
He looked for more money but didn't have any
Then got lost in a memory of when he was twenty
'Son, money's not so important, there's no such thing as luck'
So save your last buck

I've watched so many people do so many stupid things
I've watched the depressed widow and how her broken heart stings
Holy angels up high fall with no wings
The sad lonely bar tender as he finishes old drinks
I realize now how grateful I am never to have lived
So I guess to end it all not living has been my gift
a ghost in the window

Moth Harris

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/a-ghost-in-the-window/
