Tonight, like many nights before
I sit here hunched over my desk
Pen in hand, a lamp above my head
Waiting for the voice that comes
When earth sleeps and is quiet
Sleepless, I wait for silence
To whisper words I can write
Into verses with rhythmic splendor
That soothe, dance and flirt
With minds of kindred spirit

I feel betrayed for the voice of the night
Failed to speak to me as it did to Frost
Speak now! Wretched voice of the night!
Have mercy and send a mist
For the well spring of this poet’s heart
Is parched and has run dry
Speak now and let me feel once more
The joy of romancing with words
Let me write again or I shall be
A mistress to poetry no more!

Jemarie Ragudo

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/a-poet-pleads/
