You wanted me to cry you a river <br />But instead I bled from the heart <br />You wanted me to finish <br />But I couldn't find a way to start <br /> <br />You promised you'd be there until the end <br />But one morning I awoke and you weren't there <br />You promised me that you'd always love me <br />But now I know you never really cared <br /> <br />When I first looked into your eyes <br />I saw my future at last <br />Years later I looked into them again <br />And all I can see was the past <br /> <br />A past that was so dark and dreary <br />That we'd like to forget <br />I wish we could leave the past behind <br />And go on with the life we have left <br /> <br />But sometimes when promises are broken <br />Just like the promise that you made <br />All the good memories of the past <br />Seem to slowly fade <br /> <br />And only the darkness of the past <br />Seems to remain in our minds <br />Hopefully the darkness will fade <br />As we make our journey through time <br /> <br />If you want me to bleed from the heart, I will <br />I'll even cry you a river if need be <br />I only ask that you save me from drowning <br />If my river becomes a raging sea <br /> <br />Perhaps we'll swim through the currents <br />Together we'll make it to shore <br />Perhaps we'll look forward to the future <br />And not the darkness of the past anymore <br /> <br />We'll lay in the sun <br />Enjoy the fresh air at last <br />We'll look forward to tomorrow <br />And forget the darkness of the past<br /><br />Mr. Poetic<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/the-darkness-of-the-past/
