It was a hot summer night <br />In the middle of July. <br />There were two outs in the 9th inning <br />And the Wildcats were two runs away from winning. <br />They had men on 2nd and 3rd, <br />But their chances of victory seemed quite absurd. <br />Cause up came Blinky McGee <br />Much to the Bulldogs' glee. <br />His batting average had take a nosedive <br />And he was 0 for his last 55. <br />Blinky hadn't swung a bat since the end of May <br />And some wished that he'd keep it that way. <br />Now the count was 0 and 2 <br />When Blinky asked for time to tie his shoe. <br />Then the pitcher delivered a breaking ball <br />And Blinky swung hard towards the leftfield wall. <br />Everyone just stopped and stared <br />As he doubled down the leftfield line, just fair. <br />Blinky went from being a zero <br />To becoming the ballgame's hero.<br /><br />Jeff Fleischer<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/blinky-mcgee/
