Flying too close to the sun, <br />I lost my way. <br /> <br />Wings on fire <br />but still dying <br />to escape <br />gravity <br />I landed <br />only momentarily <br />in an awkward attempt <br />to get my bearings. <br /> <br />Then as I leaped again, <br />you slipped a tether <br />around my ankle <br />in a desperate ploy <br />to bungee me back <br />to the edge of your world. <br /> <br />Sadly you cannot undo <br />the fact that I left you <br />a long long time ago, <br />and … <br />radical adjustment, <br />however sincere, <br />on your part <br />is simply <br />not enough <br />to overcome <br />the damage done. <br /> <br />I wish <br />I could <br />muster up <br />all the feelings <br />I had <br />for you <br />in the past, <br />but… <br />those days <br />are gone, <br />and flying <br />solo <br />and much <br />much too close <br />to the sun, <br />I have lost <br />my way.<br /><br />William Jackson<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/flying-too-close-to-the-sun/
