The mountain air feeds my starving lungs <br />As I stand with others, waiting <br />My legs feel weak and my hands are shaking <br />But I know what I must do <br /> <br />I take a step and a deep breath <br />Begin the quick ascent <br />Gulping and holding tight to his hand <br />Thoughts racing, reeling through my head <br /> <br />The edge is so near, but closer is my heart <br />To the edge of my mouth <br />As I see their waiting faces and hear his words <br />Why are you here, he asks <br />And I can't look at him as I respond <br />Whisper, If I don't fall, I'll never learn to stand <br /> <br />I turn around, my legs nothing under me <br />And begin to sob, my heart burned ragged <br />I call out for them to answer, and they do <br />But I'm not ready. Time is speeding past me <br />But I don't notice anything except the fear <br />Holding me close, suffocating me <br /> <br />Finally, I lean back and fall <br />Letting a scream erupt from my very core <br />As I collapse into the arms <br />Of the only One who can save me <br /> <br />I let it all go as the others hold me close <br />Letting their love wash over me <br />And letting the tears come, not in anguish <br />But in joy over the victory <br /> <br />The rest of the day is a blur <br />Compared to the blazing sky and a memory <br />Of the release of my fragile soul <br />Into the wild blue oblivion<br /><br />Fallen Too Far<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/freefall/
