Having taken a wrong turn somewhere just west of another disaster
Life’s highway seemed deserted and in every intersection a red light
Disoriented and lost in a mind fog of limited possibilities
Rendered sightless with no illuminating thoughts or wiper blades
Capable of cleaning the protective windshield of my clearer logic
I turned around and returned in a direction I had once tried to escape
At least there I could get some rest and head out again in the morning
Before the crows and starlings would try to darkened the winter sky
With their outraged decent over my slightest progress towards a more godly life
And as to where my life will lead?
They seemed to be the only ones to know….

2007 © T Sheridan

Ted Sheridan

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/on-a-highway-outside-of-starling-part-1-retreat-but-not-surrender/
