We look inside ourselves for the answers to her questionable behavior <br />Because twenty is too young to be so old and too old to still be innocent <br />But because we love her we try to understand that which cannot be understood <br />Lies and untruths abound whenever she is around <br />Her pain is our pain <br />But unlike a scraped elbow or knee this pain cannot be kissed and made all better <br />This pain is like a knife in our hearts <br />This pain screams and demands to be heard <br />This pain is invisible but demands to be seen <br />And so <br />We look in the mirror every morning and fail to recognize ourselves <br />She is our only child so how could we be the parents she describes us as <br />We are loving people and give her everything she wants except discipline <br />We are forgiving but what she wants most of all is punishment for her sins <br />She hates us for loving her <br />Maybe we just expected she’d love us in return <br />Maybe it’s true we did and still do…. <br />Love her too much<br /><br />Ted Sheridan<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/a-lot-of-love-may-be-too-much/
