Lows and highs <br />a blessing in disguise? <br />certainly we have a propensity <br />to rue the life we lead <br />and hanker after another's lot <br />how many are brave enough <br />to open up Pandora's box <br />and look at their life <br />without a critical rebuff <br />that simply keeps the dirt and fluff <br />under cosy carpet tufts. <br /> <br />Without the lows we can career <br />on the high points of a wave <br />of satisfied sailing days <br />wearing pompous crest <br />of all the things that I did best <br />without an eye for the storm <br />that lurks on horizons spurned. <br /> <br />And the lows that <br />like the weather bring their woes <br />unwanted but not unnatural <br />in their power to upturn <br />or throw of course this life <br />but perhaps we learn <br />humility and in turn <br />compassion for suffering <br />at the hands of higher powers <br />that shape our days and hours. <br /> <br />All that comes and goes <br />as though a magic show <br />of opposites as through life I go <br />forgetful of what I truly know <br />what is important <br />glimmering gold? <br />or just the shining <br />and what it told?<br /><br />David Taylor<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/for-me-and-my-friend/
