It was deep in the night <br />with the sound of the wind <br />as it whistled and rattled <br />through my window within. <br />The shadows were creeping <br />and casting about. <br />In the distance of darkness <br />a wolf gave a howl that called out. <br />Do not forget me <br />and don't ever doubt <br />that I will be waiting <br />around and about. <br />It was deep in the night <br />and my thoughts ran on wild <br />to the places I feared <br />when I was a child. <br />The shapes in the mist <br />as they came and they went <br />I never did know <br />what menace they meant. <br />An atmosphere charged <br />with a feeling within <br />of a darkness that comes <br />in the absence of light <br />when the wind in my mind <br />makes a swirling of thoughts <br />and sleep will not take me <br />to that place that has nought.<br /><br />David Taylor<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/restless-night-5/
