Injustice rules supremely, <br />In this great big land, <br />White and Black on equal basis, <br />Is a real big ask, <br />As white is nobler birth. <br />Must the native Old Australians, <br />In Australia, be ranked as aliens? <br /> <br />They don’t say what <br />They are gonna do <br />With their money, <br />But there’s no need, <br />They will all end up, <br />At the Pub. <br /> <br />The voices and the laughter, <br />All gone, all gone. <br /> <br />The indigenous people cry out! <br />‘We want hope, not racialism, <br />Make us equals, not dependants. <br />We want freedom, not frustration, <br />Not rebuff, but education, <br />Self-respect, not resignation. <br />Let’s forget the old time slavers. <br />Give us homes, not settlements and missions.’ <br />But the white men just ignored them. <br /> <br />One man took courage <br />And went right up to the white men. <br />‘Life is for liberty, ’ he said. <br />‘And earth was made for all. <br />The colour of his face <br />Is no man’s test of worth. <br />I am a child of the dreamtime people. <br />I am this land. <br />And this land is me. <br />I am Australia.’ <br />They just laughed and turned away, saying <br />‘Just a black man playing white man games.’ <br /> <br />The Indigenous people tried and tried again, <br />Even though there were still <br />Hunted down and hated. <br />When injustice still rules supremely. <br /> <br />The voices and the laughter, <br />All gone, all gone, <br />And the tears fall down.<br /><br />Selina Gurgacz<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/fighting-for-justice/
