Fred Babbin - DO I KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT?

As I read poetry,
The good stuff looks
like photographs of words,
Or maybe more like holograms,
where every little piece
is a picture of the thing
the holographer holographed.
And so with words –
So many times, 'more is less'.

Some seem to think,
the more, the merrier,
and forget about imagination.

The brain's a wond'rous instrument,
and it can frighten you, please you,
help you to live, and it might even kill you,
under the right conditions.

But-
We all want more, greater,
especially when less
would be better.

Words can be omitted,
Because what's left will be committed
to showing what the poet intended
provided the poem is well written.

And if readers have some brain
they will fill the empty spaces
Less will be a greater gain,
When 'less is more'
Is the poet's basis

Fred Babbin

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/do-i-know-what-i-m-talking-about/
