I saw him today, yes I saw him …. <br />Had no time to run, or hide <br />Had to stay and get my groceries <br />Fumbling and shaking inside <br /> <br />He talked to me and looked at me <br />And I felt the panic rise <br />We smiled and talked of nothing much <br />As I looked in his eyes <br /> <br />We stood outside a shop <br />So close yet so far away <br />We looked away, then back again <br />Not knowing what to say <br /> <br />Instead I laughed, said I was fine <br />When he did ask of me <br />I lied and told him some lame line <br />“Never better actually” <br /> <br />Then he mentioned his new love <br />The words cut through me then <br />Too late, the wound had opened up <br />And the pain was back again <br /> <br />Tonight I cried for him <br />As once I did so much <br />And longed for him to hold me <br />And feel his tender touch <br /> <br />But nothing can be done now <br />I’ll never have him back <br />He’s found himself a new love <br />And that is simply that.<br /><br />jennifer jane pryce<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/him-39/
