My eyes are of two colors,
mirrors of a soul divided.
The left: the color of doubt.
The right: the color of wonder.

I was once both beautiful
and brave. My smile
drove away the clouds.

Today, the ghosts of my youth
are demanding answers.
I cast a stone of silence.

A Joshua tree drinks the stars.
Tomorrow, the sun will rise
black in the sky.

David Kowalczyk

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/burning-small-satin-rivers/
