In an icy grey white sky
the sun impersonated
the moon today
a bright silver disc
hiding golden sunlight hues
behind the daytime mist.
With passing clouds
in seeming collaboration
adding moonlike features
to the silver shining orb
giving cause to pause and think.
What does it mean to say to me
this golden god in disguise
as the illuminator
of nocturnal days?

Is it tired of all the adulation
given to the satellite
that for its beauty in the night
must steal his all pervading light?
Or perhaps it wants me to know
that soon there could be coming snow
or then again, maybe
just now and then
it would like to be perceived
in a more gentle form to see
that does not burn our gaze
with such fiercesome golden rays?

David Taylor

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/the-sun-in-disguise/
