Let me propose <br />Though late I suppose <br />A toast to all those <br />Who are readers <br /> <br />Be they women or men <br />Daily, or now and again <br />Our poems without them <br />Want for the eye of a reader <br /> <br />A thanks now to those <br />Who graze on our prose <br />A good writer knows <br />No greater friend than those <br />Who throughout the year are the readers <br /> <br />For want of a read <br />Many poet’s hearts bleed <br />As they strive to succeed <br />In winning attention of the readers <br /> <br />So let us toast them now <br />While making this vow <br />For praise declare them Saints <br />(We may ignore their complaints) <br />Before the year ends, we should all raise a glass to the readers. <br /> <br /> <br />A Happy New Year to you all. <br />Don’t forget to toast yourself if you are also a reader. <br />Speaking strictly for myself, tonight I plan to get drunk on poetry.<br /><br />H.i Chesebit<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/new-year-toast-to-the-readers/
