New toy! <br /> <br />(forgotten now) . <br /> <br />The box it came in <br />filled with snow <br /> <br />in an early evening <br />backyard <br /> <br />offers now <br />a different delight <br /> <br />to his mind <br />this the most wonderful <br /> <br />present <br /> of all <br /> <br />a box <br />of snow <br /> <br />as if a sky <br />grown heavy <br /> <br />had shed <br />itself <br /> <br />to be collected <br />in a battered box <br /> <br />a box <br />of sky <br /> <br />heavy and white and cold. <br /> <br />* * * * * * * <br /> <br />ENCOUNTER <br /> <br />This island <br />of leaf <br /> <br />floating downstream <br />this…way…that <br /> <br />captained by <br />some unknown insect <br /> <br />who stands <br />steadfast <br /> <br />unperturbed <br />by the waves <br /> <br />swamping his little craft <br /> <br />as I stand in his way <br />unexpected…giant like <br /> <br />who as I reach <br />to rescue him <br /> <br />flies off <br />with an annoyed buzz <br /> <br />for a second <br />(real close) <br /> <br />we see <br />eye to eye <br /> <br />then he’s gone <br />lost in a vast sky <br /> <br />I blinded by the blue <br />no longer able to see <br /> <br />it <br />in <br />it’s <br />immensity <br /> <br />see only sunlight <br />walking on water.<br /><br />Dónall Dempsey<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/box-of-sky-for-lyn/
