The kite <br />clutched to your chest <br /> <br />as if your heart <br />had escaped <br /> <br />glorying in yellow <br />& red <br /> <br />your fingertips <br />releasing it to the sky <br /> <br />where like <br />a prayer <br /> <br />searching for a God <br />it knew <br /> <br />it flew <br /> <br />like a wish <br /> <br />lost between clouds <br /> <br />now impossible now real <br /> <br />my heart now too <br />dancing next to you <br /> <br />we chase each other <br />across a vast immensity of blue <br /> <br />kite tails <br />twirling like laughter <br /> <br />spiralling with delight <br /> <br />cutting the sky <br />into shapes <br /> <br />that shift <br />and change <br /> <br />entangled now <br /> <br />brought back to earth <br /> <br />out of breath <br /> <br />we run <br /> <br />gather the other’s <br />heart <br /> <br />into our trembling <br />hands <br /> <br />souls embodied <br />now <br /> <br />still in the sky.<br /><br />Dónall Dempsey<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/heart-s-delight/
