A moment I wanted to arrest, <br />with cruel and swift precision. <br />A moment I wanted to rewind the clock. <br />A moment I wanted to stop from occurring <br />A moment my soul just dropped, <br /> <br />Plumetting to a sad and eerie place, <br />too difficult to desribe. <br />As I heard on the news that it's likely <br />to be something the Dr's prescribed. <br /> <br />It hit me like a tonne of bricks, <br />that today death visits it's chosen. <br />No sense, no reason. No warning given! <br />It left my soul barren..... <br />My heart frozen. <br /> <br />Cold to the point of disbelief. <br /> <br />Please let it not be drugs that severed the life. <br />Such promise it offered to give. <br />Please let it not be the demons <br />that tempt us not to live. <br /> <br />Please let it be some freak of nature <br />or some congenital disease, <br />So that my heart doesn't tear apart <br />with a grief that cannot be eased. <br /> <br />For a tortured soul that's misunderstood <br />Or totally misrepresented <br />For a character and heart too kind for this time, <br />Perhaps this could have been prevented. <br /> <br />For a natural event is beyond our touch <br />And in which some comfort can be found <br />But the other, we think we could have stopped <br />and the impact is cruelly profound. <br /> <br />But with the sadness and pain that the news brings today <br />It also endows us a gift <br />To love life as he did, humble and true <br />For the moment, is how we should live.<br /><br />Vanessa Millar<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/on-hearing-heath-ledger-had-died/
