Snow-bird Haven <br />Called my <br />Rambling Floridian ears <br /> <br />Gregariously grayed <br />Decked out Bermudas <br />Dark socks and sandals <br /> <br />They had seemed <br />So foreign, so frail <br />So elderly, so frugal <br /> <br />They all came out to <br />Welcome me, N0-Smokey Grey <br />And ours labs, Kirstie and Sam <br /> <br />They checked out our boat <br />Our truck, the books we were reading <br />They reminded us <br /> <br />About the pooper scoop, <br />The free videos, kayaks <br />Bicycles and bar-b- que <br /> <br />A few of their tales <br />Told <br />Over and over again <br /> <br />They shared their music <br />Out on the veranda <br />And sipped in white wine and sunsets <br /> <br />Yet, they tear about on rented <br />Motor bikes with tiny <br />American flags waving <br /> <br />And tenderly <br />Anointed one another with SPF-30 <br />And called home to let the kids know <br /> <br />Yes, they were enjoying the winter sun <br />Dad had suffered no angina this week <br />And the seafood is truly yummy <br /> <br />And some how, I thought <br />We had crossed <br />That line in that Cedar-ed sand <br /> <br />(The Sandy Shores of Cedar Key)<br /><br />Debora Short<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/from-sunset-to-twillight-a-floridian-s-journey/
