As the sun set in the night time
And the day was finally through
Before laying down his weary head
He had one more thing to do

He dropped down on his knees
Put his forehead against the bed
Spoke directly to his God
And this is what he said

“Oh Lord I’ve been a sinner
Off and on throughout my life
Not always been so loving
To my sweet and caring wife

I’ve not always thought about
The neighbors down the road
For I’ve spent too much time
Toting my own heavy load”

He shifted his tired weight
Feeling uncomfortable right now
Harder it seemed to do than
Getting a horse to pull the plow

“I’ve made so many mistakes
In raising my five kids
Not always said I love them
My emotions are often hid

No matter what I’ve done, Lord
Through all my trials and sins
Please try to understand
And accept me just as I am”

Somehow this good man knew
God would hear his plea
And help him face another day
Just like with you and me!

Marilyn Lott

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/just-as-i-am/
