SEDOKA <br /> <br />The Sedoka is an unrhymed poem made up of two three-line katauta with the following syllable counts: 5/7/7,5/7/7. A Sedoka, pair of katauta as a single poem, may address the same subject from differing perspectives. <br /> <br />IN THE NIGHT 1 <br /> <br />in the misty glen <br />lanterns float throughout the night <br />ghosts - the restless wanderers <br /> <br />a shriek in the night <br />an owl swoops hunting this night <br />what animal - source of fright <br /> <br /> <br />IN THE NIGHT 2 <br /> <br />invading my sleep <br />your words mousing in the night <br />lips of light brushing my dream <br /> <br />I tasted new love <br />rising from an other self <br />fingering inner curtains <br /> <br /> <br />A NEW DAY’S COLOR <br /> <br />sun striking its blush <br />coloring the dawning sky <br />I know a new day’s color <br /> <br />a new promise born <br />spring’s murmurings rustling free <br />what koan* to wrestle today <br /> <br />*koan - a short, pithy but illogical statement, intended to free <br />the mind from its rational mode of thought.
