I have not lived my life alone <br />Lonely though I be. <br />I'm satisfied, just as I am, <br />To share the world with thee. <br /> <br />No one knows, and I won't tell, <br />The truth about our lives; <br />And how it is I've managed to <br />Make sure our love survives. <br /> <br />I have been told today of you, <br />And of your latest trial. <br />And so it was, I once again, <br />Stared lonely at your smile. <br /> <br />It made me think that once again <br />It's time to shed a tear. <br />Ere I should lose them all at once <br />If you should leave me here. <br /> <br />And so I turned the little valve <br />So they would flow a bit. <br />And prayed to God He'd see my pain, <br />And take some note of it. <br /> <br />It's in this way, though far apart, <br />I'm still quite near to you. <br />For when I cry, I feel again; <br />My love, all through and through. <br /> <br />In sharing in your joy or pain, <br />Though oh so far apart; <br />I still can feel the warmth and love <br />That lies within your heart. <br /> <br />So I shall shed a tear or two, <br />And keep the rest at bay. <br />I'll surely need them all at once, <br />Should you depart one day. <br /> <br />The only hope for my escape, <br />From drowning in their flow. <br />Is leaving soon enough; that I'll <br />Have left, before you go. <br /> <br />Only God, in mercy knows; <br />What this life has in store. <br />Whenever this one ends for us. <br />I'll pray, we'll share, one more.<br /><br />GREENWOLFE 1962<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/i-have-not-lived-my-life-alone/
